December Hero of the Month: Diane Philliber

Dec 1, 2024 | Hero of the Month

Capstone Hospice proudly celebrates Diane Philliber as this month’s Hero of the Month. Diane’s journey into hospice care is deeply personal and profoundly inspiring. Her story began in 2010 when her mother was diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer and entered hospice care in Missouri. Experiencing hospice from the perspective of a daughter left a lasting impact on Diane, inspiring her to dedicate her career to this compassionate field.

A Missouri native, Diane started her nursing career in 1989 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, working with children facing oncology, hematology, and bone marrow transplant treatments. Over the years, her professional path evolved, but her commitment to providing holistic, family-centered care has remained steadfast. Diane describes her work at Capstone Hospice as a full-circle moment, likening it to her early days as a nurse and a way to honor her mother’s legacy.

When asked what she loves most about her role, Diane’s answer is simple: the people. Whether she’s brainstorming in the office to create tools for nurses and families, mentoring new team members in the “Capstone Way,” or providing comfort and care in a patient’s home, Diane’s passion for people is evident in everything she does.

Outside of work, Diane embraces the changing seasons with a variety of activities. In spring, she enjoys hiking with her husband and dogs, exploring new trails and breweries. Summers are spent poolside with a good book and a fruity cocktail. Fall is reserved for football season, cheering on her beloved Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs. Winter brings cozy family game nights and quiet moments with books by the fire.

Diane’s choice of charity, Kate’s Club, reflects her empathetic spirit and dedication to helping others through grief. The organization, which supports young people coping with loss from all causes, is deeply meaningful to her following the loss of her 16-year-old nephew in a tragic car accident. Diane’s niece, who was also in the car and survived with severe injuries, continues to inspire her commitment to aiding others in their healing journeys.

Capstone Hospice is honored to have Diane Philliber on its team. Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to patients and their families embody the essence of hospice care. Please join us in congratulating Diane for her outstanding contributions and celebrating her as our Hero of the Month!
